A United States-based physician and board-certified paediatrician, Bolaji Odusina, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as she prepares to contest the 2027 Ogun State governorship election
Odusina recently declared her intention to run for the state’s top office, stating that she had undertaken wide consultations before selecting a political platform to actualise her ambition of succeeding incumbent governor, Dapo Abiodun.
Speaking with journalists in Abeokuta, she acknowledged the dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the influence of its key figures but expressed confidence that underdog candidates could still emerge victorious.
She described the upcoming contest as a “David and Goliath” scenario but maintained that history has shown that such outcomes can be unpredictable.
According to her, years of dissatisfaction and unmet expectations under the current administration have left many residents seeking a new direction in governance.
Odusina criticised what she described as a “suffering-and-smiling” approach, arguing that governance should focus on fixing critical systems such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, job creation, and security.
She also pointed to challenges including poor road networks, inadequate medical supplies, weak healthcare delivery, and economic hardship, attributing them to what she termed the ruling party’s governance style.
Emphasising that the 2027 election would not be determined by financial strength or political influence, she stated that competence, credibility, and ideas would shape the outcome.
Odusina explained that her decision to join the ADC was based on the party’s alignment with her vision of inclusive and people-centred governance.
Reaffirming her campaign under the mantra “D-Doc 2027,” she pledged to deliver sustainable solutions across key sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and youth development.
The governorship aspirant, who hails from Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun East Senatorial District, said her decision to contest was driven by her experience in community health interventions, particularly in rural areas.
Through her initiative, Doctors Without Prejudice, she noted that she has organised several free medical outreaches across communities in Odogbolu, Abeokuta North, and Ijebu-Igbo, reaching thousands of beneficiaries.
Her proposed 12-point agenda includes 24-hour grassroots healthcare services, free and compulsory basic education, industrialisation-driven job creation, agricultural development, as well as youth and women empowerment programmes.
