Mustapha Kwankwaso, son of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has officially resigned from the party.
The former Kano State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development announced his resignation on Monday through a statement posted on his official Facebook page. He also confirmed that he is in the process of joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following his father’s exit from the NNPP a day earlier.
Describing his decision as carefully considered, Mustapha, who is also the Secretary of the Kwankwasiyya movement, said his move to the ADC is aimed at advancing a political agenda focused on development and good governance.
“I wish to inform the public that I have formally resigned my membership from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). This was not a decision taken lightly, but a deliberate and well-thought-out choice. I am currently in the process of joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and I look forward to this new phase in my political journey,” he said.
He added that the ADC provides a platform that aligns with his vision for progress and improved welfare, particularly in Kano State.
“My choice to join the ADC stems from my belief that the party is best positioned to drive the change and development our country, and especially Kano, needs. The party’s vision and values present a viable platform for advancing good governance, economic growth, and the well-being of our people,” Mustapha said.
PUNCH Online reports that his resignation coincides with plans for his father to formally join the ADC on Monday.
