The Abia State Police Command has commenced an inquiry into the death of a staff member of the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, Mr Ikenna Onuoha, whose lifeless body was discovered on a bush path in the Amaeke-Isiadu area of Umuahia North Local Government Area.
Onuoha, said to be a friendly and diligent worker at the hospital, was reportedly found dead at night last week, a development that left his family members, colleagues and associates in shock.
Speaking on the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed that the command received a report and immediately dispatched detectives to the scene to carry out preliminary investigations and documentation.
She stated that no visible marks of violence were observed on the body, which has since been moved to a morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Chinaka added that initial findings suggested a possible case of suicide, while stressing that investigations were still ongoing.
“The remains have been deposited at the morgue, and an autopsy will be conducted.
Preliminary findings indicate a suspected suicide, but a full investigation is underway, and further updates will be made available,” she said.
