Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has urged the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, to take swift and decisive measures in response to the March 27 attack on Angwan Rukuba community in Jos, which left more than 30 people, largely worshippers, dead.
In a statement posted on her official social media platforms, the lawmaker condemned the killings, describing them as a stark indication of persistent security lapses across the country.
She expressed disappointment over what she termed a disconnect between assurances given during the minister’s Senate screening and the current security realities.
“Angwan Rukuba is yet another painful reminder that Nigerians are still vulnerable. The expectations raised during your screening must now be matched with concrete action,” she stated.
The senator urged the Defence Minister to demonstrate leadership by taking decisive steps to protect lives, warning that Nigerians were growing weary of repeated condolences without tangible results.
“Deliver on your mandate to secure lives or make way. Nigerians demand action, not excuses,” she added.
The attack, which occurred on March 27, has heightened concerns over insecurity in Plateau State and other parts of the country, with many citizens calling for a comprehensive review of the nation’s security architecture.
Residents of the affected community have continued to mourn the victims while demanding justice and improved protection against future attacks.
Security analysts say the incident underscores the urgent need for coordinated strategies to address recurring violence and restore public confidence in the nation’s security agencies.
