President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday condemned the recent wave of violence in Plateau State and Kaduna State, describing the attacks as barbaric and unacceptable, while assuring that perpetrators would be apprehended and prosecuted.
The attacks, which occurred in Angwan Rukuba area of Jos and Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, reportedly left several persons dead, with others abducted, including guests at a wedding ceremony.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President decried the killings, stressing that those behind the assaults would not escape justice.
Tinubu described the assailants as cowardly, noting that the targeting of vulnerable communities was aimed at inciting reprisals and deepening violence.
He directed security agencies to intensify efforts to track down those responsible, while also urging them to act decisively on intelligence to prevent further attacks. The President further cautioned against the spread of misinformation capable of heightening tensions, warning sections of the media against framing the incidents along religious lines.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to restoring peace, Tinubu called on citizens to support security agencies with credible information, emphasising that proactive measures remained key to addressing the country’s security challenges.
He also ordered the immediate rescue of abducted victims in Kahir village and commended the efforts of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, and Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, for their response to the crises.
The President extended his condolences to families of the victims and wished those injured a speedy recovery, reiterating the Federal Government’s resolve to strengthen security operations nationwide through the deployment of advanced surveillance and response technologies.
