Medical doctors in Ogun State have threatened to embark on an industrial action following the alleged assault of a colleague, raising fresh concerns over the safety of healthcare workers in Nigeria.
The threat was issued by members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), who condemned the incident and described it as unacceptable. The association warned that failure to address the matter promptly could lead to a withdrawal of services across hospitals in the state.
According to reports, the assaulted doctor was attacked while on duty, sparking outrage within the medical community. Colleagues have called for immediate investigation and prosecution of those responsible.
The NMA stressed that healthcare professionals must be protected while carrying out their duties, noting that repeated cases of harassment and violence against medical personnel could further strain an already fragile health system.
The association also urged the Nigeria Police Force and relevant authorities to ensure justice is served and to implement stronger security measures in hospitals.
