The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has renewed his call for the establishment of state police as a response to Nigeria’s deepening security crisis.
Reacting to the spate of killings in Plateau State, Adams urged the Federal Government, the state authorities, and security agencies to take urgent and decisive steps to halt the recurring violence and restore peace.
In a statement, he condemned the attacks that have claimed several innocent lives, describing the situation as a grave threat to national cohesion and stability.
According to him, the persistent bloodshed has left many citizens living in fear, warning that such a climate undermines social harmony and stalls development.
He stressed that the protection of lives and property must remain a top priority, calling for immediate and effective measures to guarantee the safety of Nigerians across affected communities.
Adams further noted that the latest incident underscores the broader security challenges confronting the country, insisting that a collective and strategic approach is required to address the crisis.
He urged authorities to review and reinforce the existing security framework, while also tackling the underlying causes of the violence.
The Yoruba leader emphasised the need for inclusive engagement with local communities and traditional institutions to foster dialogue and promote peacebuilding.
He also called for swift justice, insisting that those responsible for the attacks must be apprehended and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to future acts of violence.
