Otti steps in as Abia LG boss allegedly starves councillor of salary for three months

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has intervened in a festering dispute between the Chairman of Ikwuano Local Government Area, Mr Anthony Nwaubani, and one of his councillors.

Legal Observer reports that allegations emerged that the council boss had withheld the councillor’s salary since December 2024 and seized solar-powered street lights meant for Oboro Ward 2.

Otti disclosed this during a media chat at the Government House, Umuahia, where he confirmed awareness of the crisis and announced that he had directed the State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Uwaoma Ukandu, to liaise with Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Monday Ubani, to resolve the matter amicably.

The governor said: “Question about Ikwuano Local Government, I am aware of it and I have directed the Commissioner for Finance and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Monday Ubani to sit down and resolve the problem.”

He assured residents that those mandated to handle the dispute would deliver a lasting resolution.
