Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House in Abuja to discuss the recent wave of deadly attacks in the state.
The meeting comes days after suspected bandits launched an ആക്രമ on a popular bar in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, on March 29, killing at least 28 people and injuring several others. The incident triggered widespread outrage and heightened security concerns across the state.
In response, the state government imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North, which was later relaxed. However, fresh disturbances were reported as hoodlums attacked motorists and commuters, causing renewed panic in parts of the city.
Speaking after the meeting, Mutfwang said security agencies have since brought the situation under control, noting that coordinated efforts by security forces helped restore calm.
Describing the violence as “an act of terrorism,” the governor said authorities have yet to identify or apprehend the perpetrators, making it difficult to determine their motives.
“We have not been able to lay hands on the attackers to know their identities or reasons,” he said, adding that the crisis involves multiple complex factors.
President Tinubu is expected to visit Jos to assess the situation firsthand and reinforce federal support for security operations in the state.
The incident underscores ongoing security challenges in parts of Nigeria’s Middle Belt, with calls growing for more proactive measures to prevent further attacks and protect vulnerable communities.
