President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the outgoing Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his 35 years of service, describing his career as one marked by professionalism, discipline, and integrity.
In a goodwill message, the president reflected on his first encounter with Egbetokun in 1998, noting that the former police chief demonstrated exceptional competence early in his career and steadily rose through the ranks to become a strategic leader.
Tinubu credited Egbetokun’s tenure as head of the Nigeria Police Force with bringing stability and professionalism to the institution, particularly through reforms aimed at strengthening intelligence-driven policing and improving operational efficiency.
He further noted that Egbetokun’s leadership contributed to enhancing the capacity of the police to address evolving security challenges while boosting public confidence in law enforcement.
Reflecting on his journey, Egbetokun attributed his achievements to divine grace, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve and acknowledging the support of key figures, including President Tinubu and traditional rulers.
“I do not merely retire; I transition under divine direction, with peace in my heart and joy in my spirit,” he said, describing his exit from active service as the beginning of a new phase rather than an end.
Egbetokun’s retirement marks the close of a significant chapter in the Nigeria Police Force, with stakeholders noting that his tenure helped entrench reforms and set new standards in policing across the country.
