Fresh attacks by suspected bandits have left one person dead and at least 15 others abducted in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, deepening fears over escalating insecurity in the North-West region.
The coordinated assaults, which unfolded between late Thursday night and the early hours of Friday, reportedly hit Unguwar Dambu in Gora Dan Saka district before spreading to nearby Gora community.
Local sources said the gunmen first struck Unguwar Dambu under the cover of darkness, forcefully taking away no fewer than 15 residents during the invasion.
The attackers were said to have later advanced to Gora community, where they ambushed residents around 3 am, triggering chaos and panic.
During the second onslaught, two individuals sustained gunshot wounds, with one of the victims later confirmed dead.
Residents also disclosed that a pregnant woman lost her life after collapsing from shock amid reports that the armed men had entered the community.
A security analyst, Bakatsine, who highlighted the incidents on X, decried the persistent wave of attacks, raising concerns about the continued exposure of rural communities to bandit to attacks have resulted in deaths, kidnappings and widespread displacement.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from security agencies were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report, with authorities yet to release a formal statement on the attacks.
