Plateau: Grief-stricken mother gives dead son cutlass to seek revenge

A grieving woman, Mrs Favour Ayuba, has drawn widespread attention after a video surfaced online showing her speaking emotionally to her late son, Promise, who was killed in a recent attack in Jos, Plateau State.

The incident occurred in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, where suspected gunmen launched an assault on March 29, leaving at least 24 people dead and several others injured.

In the viral footage, the mother appeared heartbroken as she lamented her son’s death, revealing that she had not eaten since the day he was killed.

During the funeral rites, she was seen producing a cutlass wrapped in white cloth, which she placed inside the coffin of the deceased.

Speaking in Hausa amid deep emotion, she called on her late son to seek justice over his killing, expressing her pain and sense of loss.

“If you want me to forget, baby, avenge your death. I carried you in my womb for nine months; you suckled at my breast. Baby, I trust you revenge for me, revenge for me. Please, wherever they are, follow them and avenge your death,” she said.

While sobbing, she also made reference to the biblical figure Gideon, drawing strength from the story of his victory in battle.

“Today is your birthday. I thank God for your life. You don’t like seeing me cry, and I will not continue to weep. I have not eaten since Sunday, but from today I will eat. I named you Promise Gideon Ayuba, and Gideon went to war and returned victorious,” she added.
