The Ondo State government says it has intensified security operations across the state, leading to over 2,500 arrests and multiple breakthroughs in the fight against crime.
In recent months, the state has recorded a series of kidnapping and violent incidents across several communities, including Ikare-Akoko, Ilu-Abo, Owo, and Akure, raising public concern over safety.
However, authorities say a coordinated response involving the police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Amotekun Corps has led to significant progress in tackling criminal activities.
Under the administration of Lucky Aiyedatiwa, security agencies have carried out targeted raids, arrests, and rescue operations across the state. Several suspects linked to kidnapping, armed robbery, and other crimes have been apprehended, while victims have been rescued in different operations.
Officials also disclosed that joint security forces have taken the fight to forest areas previously used as hideouts by criminal groups, particularly in the Owo–Ifon axis and Akure North.
In addition to enforcement, the government has introduced preventive measures, including the deployment of surveillance systems such as CCTV cameras in parts of Akure, as well as the enforcement of restrictions on commercial motorcycle operations at night.
The state also recently recruited additional personnel into the Amotekun Corps to strengthen local security presence and improve intelligence gathering.
Authorities maintain that these combined efforts are beginning to yield results, with increased arrests, disruption of criminal networks, and improved response to security threats.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
