The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has dismissed rumours suggesting a rift between him, Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.
Speaking at his residence in Oyo, the monarch described his relationship with both leaders as cordial, insisting there is no misunderstanding.
He noted that the governor has been supportive and stated that any issues, if they arise, would be resolved privately. He also explained that his recent absence from public functions was due to health reasons, not any form of disagreement.
Addressing claims of tension with the Olubadan, the Alaafin said the rumours were unfounded and driven by misinformation from bloggers. He clarified that both traditional rulers maintain mutual respect and have communicated directly to clear any perceived misunderstandings.
The monarch further stated that he holds no grievances against anyone and urged the public to disregard false narratives aimed at creating division.
Beyond addressing the rumours, he highlighted ongoing developments in Oyo, including efforts to resolve land disputes through a dedicated committee, the construction of a community health centre valued at about ₦800 million, and plans for a civic centre. Renovation work at the palace is also ongoing.
He reaffirmed his commitment to peace, unity, and development, calling on the public to support traditional institutions and ignore baseless speculations.
