Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has strongly criticized the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for what he described as its failure to act decisively against Iran over the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement shared on social media, Zelenskyy warned that the situation poses a serious threat to global stability and international trade. He argued that no country should be allowed to block such a vital maritime route or endanger global supply chains.
Drawing comparisons with Ukraine’s ongoing conflict with Russia, Zelenskyy recalled how Moscow attempted to cripple Ukraine’s economy by targeting its Black Sea shipping routes. He emphasized that Ukraine overcame those challenges through decisive action, not inaction.
The Ukrainian leader warned that the current crisis could escalate into a broader global disruption if not urgently addressed. He stressed that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open to ensure the smooth flow of international trade and maintain economic stability worldwide.
Zelenskyy also highlighted that instability in the Middle East has far-reaching consequences, affecting global markets, economic predictability, and the cost of living across nations.
Calling for urgent action, he urged the international community to ensure a more effective and responsive United Nations Security Council capable of addressing major global security threats.
He concluded by warning that prolonged inaction could worsen the crisis, emphasizing the need for decisive leadership to prevent further escalation.
