The National Association of Akure Students (NAAS) has called for strict screening of aspirants seeking to represent Akure South Constituency 1, urging political parties to ensure that only qualified indigenes emerge as candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued by its National President, Olugbenga Samuel, the association raised concerns over the candidacy of Adeola Rosemary Fynch, alleging that she is not an indigene of Akure but originally from Ilesa.
The group urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress and relevant stakeholders to conduct proper verification of aspirants to avoid the emergence of non-indigenes as candidates in the constituency.
NAAS stressed that thorough screening is necessary to uphold fairness, political integrity, and proper representation of the people. It warned that failure to ensure due diligence could lead to tensions and dissatisfaction among constituents.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the interests of Akure students and indigenes, while calling on political parties to prioritize transparency and adherence to established guidelines in the candidate selection process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
