United States President, Donald Trump, has warned that any country found supplying weapons to Iran would face immediate economic sanctions, including a 50 per cent tariff on goods exported to the United States.
Trump issued the warning on Wednesday via his Truth Social platform, stressing that the measure would be enforced without exceptions.
According to him, nations involved in arming Iran would be subjected to sweeping tariffs on all goods entering the US market.
“A country supplying military weapons to Iran will be immediately tariffed on any and all goods sold to the United States at 50 per cent, effective immediately. There will be no exclusions or exemptions,” he stated.
In a separate post, the US leader disclosed that his administration was also engaging in discussions with Iran over possible tariff and sanctions relief.
The development comes hours after Trump announced a temporary ceasefire arrangement with Tehran, which reportedly agreed to reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global oil transit route, and its reopening is expected to ease tensions in international energy markets.
The latest remarks signal a mix of pressure and diplomacy from Washington as it navigates its relationship with Iran amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
