The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has presented 40 brand-new SUVs to traditional rulers across the state as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and reward their contributions to peace and development.
The vehicles were handed over during a statutory meeting of the Ogun State Council of Obas held at the Obas’ Complex in Abeokuta.
Announcing the gesture, the governor said the initiative was in recognition of the vital role traditional rulers play in maintaining stability and serving as a link between the government and local communities.
He described monarchs as custodians of culture and key partners in governance, noting that their support has been instrumental in sustaining peace and fostering development across the state.
Abiodun also urged the traditional rulers to continue working closely with the government to create a peaceful and investor-friendly environment, stressing that attracting genuine investors is crucial for job creation, infrastructure growth, and improved living standards.
In addition, he called for increased vigilance on security matters, responsible land management, and stronger cooperation within communities to support the state’s economic progress.
The Ogun State Council of Obas, a statutory body comprising recognized traditional rulers, serves as a formal platform for consultation between the government and the traditional institution. Its operations are guided by the Obas, Chiefs and Traditional Council Law enacted in 2021.
