Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has alleged that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is planning to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rahidi Adewolu Ladoja.
Fayose made the claim in a post shared on his X handle on Sunday, alleging that the move would begin with the issuance of an official query to the monarch over his absence at a recent coronation ceremony in Ibadan.
According to him, the planned action may be linked to the Olubadan’s non-attendance at the coronation of some high chiefs held about two weeks ago.
“I have it on good authority that Governor Seyi Makinde is plotting to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland. The process is expected to begin this week with a government query citing his absence at the coronation ceremony and other allegations,” Fayose wrote.
The former governor criticised Makinde in strong terms, describing his alleged actions as politically motivated, while stating that the situation would be closely monitored.
The allegation comes amid speculations of a possible disagreement between the state government and the traditional institution.
However, the Olubadan Palace had earlier dismissed claims of any rift between the monarch and the governor, insisting that relations remain cordial.
In a statement, the palace clarified that the Olubadan did not deliberately boycott the coronation event, noting that he remains in Ibadan and continues to carry out his traditional responsibilities.
“We wish to state clearly that there is no disagreement between the Olubadan and the state government. Kabiyesi is hale and hearty and fully engaged in his duties,” the statement read.
The palace urged the public to disregard unverified reports and rely on official channels for accurate information.
As of the time of filing this report, the Oyo State Government had yet to respond to Fayose’s allegation.
