A faction of the African Democratic Congress in Adamawa State has announced the suspension of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, from the party.
The decision was disclosed on Monday by the factional chairman in the state, Raji Sulaiman Zumo.
Also affected by the suspension is a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.
Details surrounding the disciplinary action were not immediately made public, but the development comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the party at the national level.
The ADC has in recent weeks been embroiled in internal disputes, with a faction led by Nafiu Bala Gombe laying claim to the position of national chairman.
The situation had earlier drawn the attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission, which subsequently withdrew recognition of the party’s leadership under former Senate President, David Mark.
The latest move by the Adamawa faction is expected to further deepen the crisis within the opposition party as stakeholders continue to jostle for control ahead of future political contests.
