The tech billionaire, who leads Tesla, posted on X (formerly Twitter) describing the Cybertruck as “an APC from the future.” While the statement referred to an Armoured Personnel Carrier, a military vehicle, many Nigerians initially assumed he was referencing All Progressives Congress (APC), the country’s ruling political party.
The misunderstanding quickly triggered a wave of reactions online, with some users expressing confusion and others reacting emotionally due to the political implications of the acronym in Nigeria.
Several commenters asked Musk to clarify his meaning, while others warned that the term “APC” carries strong political associations locally. Some even joked about the situation, turning it into satire about Nigeria’s political climate.
One user noted that the acronym is “a trigger for a lot of pain,” urging Musk to avoid using it casually. Another humorously admitted being startled upon seeing the tweet.
However, some Nigerians stepped in to clarify that Musk was referring to a military-style vehicle design, not politics. They explained that the Cybertruck’s structure resembles an armoured carrier, which is commonly abbreviated as APC.
