The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has cautioned Ayodele Fayose over his claim that Seyi Makinde is planning to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja.
Fayose had earlier alleged that the Oyo State governor was plotting to depose the monarch, claiming the process would begin with a query over the Olubadan’s absence at a recent coronation event.
Reacting to this, the CCII described Fayose’s statement as false, provocative, and capable of causing unrest in Ibadan.
In a statement issued by its President-General, Ajeniyi Ajewole, the council warned that such comments could destabilize the peace and unity of the city, stressing that traditional institutions should not be dragged into political controversies.
The council insisted that matters concerning the Olubadan stool follow a well-established process that cannot be influenced by political speculation. It also urged the public to disregard Fayose’s claims.
Ajewole further criticized Fayose for interfering in Ibadan affairs, noting that he has no role in the traditional or political structure of the city.
He added that Governor Makinde, as an indigene, would not take actions that undermine the revered institution.
Similarly, aides to the Olubadan and the Oyo State government dismissed the allegation, stating that there is no conflict between the governor and the monarch, and no plan has been discussed to remove him.
The CCII concluded by urging political figures across Nigeria to avoid making statements that could incite tension and disrupt public peace.
