The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has commenced renovation work at the party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, following its reopening.
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria, who monitored activities at the premises on Monday, observed that refurbishment was ongoing ahead of the resumption of staff.
The development comes days after the Nigeria Police Force unsealed the secretariat, granting access to the faction loyal to the party’s National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed.
Although barricades previously mounted around the complex had been removed, security presence remained noticeable, with police personnel stationed at strategic points within the facility.
A party source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the renovation exercise began on Sunday and includes repainting offices, replacing air conditioning units, and changing locks, alongside the reallocation of offices to members of the new National Working Committee.
The source, however, noted that the situation may pose challenges for some staff members believed to be loyal to the rival faction led by Tanimu Turaki.
As of the time of filing this report, no official activities had resumed at the secretariat.
The Mohammed-led leadership had earlier announced the reopening of both the national secretariat and the party’s presidential campaign office, Legacy House in Maitama, citing compliance with court directives.
While commending the police for what it described as professionalism, the faction warned against any attempt to disrupt activities at the secretariat.
Meanwhile, the rival Turaki-led group has faulted the move, describing the unsealing of the property as premature, noting that the matter remains subject to appeal.
