A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Buba Galadima, on Tuesday declared that President Bola Tinubu would be defeated in the 2027 general elections, expressing strong confidence in the opposition’s chances.
Galadima, who spoke at the party’s national convention, criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress, accusing it of undermining opposition parties and attempting to dominate the political space.
In a remark that drew reactions from party faithful, he suggested that the electorate’s dissatisfaction with the current administration was so deep that even the most unlikely challenger could secure victory at the polls.
He alleged that the APC-led government had made concerted efforts to weaken major opposition platforms, including the Peoples Democratic Party, Social Democratic Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party, Labour Party and the ADC.
According to him, such actions were aimed at limiting political competition and consolidating control ahead of the next election cycle.
Galadima, however, urged party members and other opposition groups to remain resolute, stressing that unity, resilience and courage would be critical in confronting what he described as attempts to stifle dissent.
He added that the successful hosting of the ADC convention, despite reported challenges, underscored the party’s determination to operate independently and resist external pressures.
The ADC stalwart maintained that no political force should dictate the direction of opposition politics in the country, reiterating the need for collective action to safeguard democratic principles.
