Legendary Nigerian music icon Fela Kuti and Nigerian-British singer Sade Adu have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in recognition of their lasting impact on global music.
The announcement was made during the 2026 inductee reveal segment aired on the popular TV show American Idol.
Fela Kuti, widely regarded as the pioneer of Afrobeat, was honoured under the ‘Early Influence Award’ category.
His innovative fusion of traditional African rhythms with jazz and funk has continued to shape music worldwide, even decades after his passing.
Earlier this year, the late icon was also posthumously recognised with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, further cementing his legacy as one of Africa’s most influential musicians.
Sade Adu, known for her distinctive voice and timeless hits such as “Smooth Operator” and “The Sweetest Taboo,” was inducted in the ‘Performer Category.’ The award highlights her enduring influence in soul and pop music across generations.
A total of 18 artists were inducted across various categories, celebrating excellence and long-standing contributions to the global music industry.
The official induction ceremony is scheduled to take place on November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, and will be streamed globally.
