Tinubu Presidency Fires Back At Aregbesola, Says He Failed As Governor, Minister

The Presidency has strongly criticized Rauf Aregbesola following his recent attack on the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing his remarks as misleading and politically motivated.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a coalition of “desperate politicians” lacking a clear national agenda.

The reaction comes after Aregbesola, speaking at the ADC National Convention in Abuja, described the Tinubu administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” as a “classic scam” and called on the President to resign.

Responding via his official platform, Onanuga accused Aregbesola of echoing opposition narratives and attempting to distort the achievements of the current government. He further criticized Aregbesola’s record in public office, citing alleged failures during his tenure as Governor of Osun State and later as Minister of Interior.

According to Onanuga, Aregbesola’s time in office was marked by unpaid salaries, hardship for pensioners, and security lapses, including notable prison breaks. He described it as ironic for the former minister to now criticize the government on issues of governance and security.

Defending the Tinubu administration, the Presidency acknowledged that ongoing economic reforms have brought temporary challenges but insisted that measures such as cash transfers and support for small businesses are being implemented to cushion the impact.

Onanuga also maintained that key economic indicators—including GDP growth, foreign reserves, and stock market performance—are showing signs of improvement, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to its policy direction.

He concluded by stating that the “Renewed Hope Agenda” remains a genuine reform effort aimed at stabilizing and strengthening Nigeria’s economy.
