The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, has called on opposition parties to take responsibility for their internal challenges, urging them to stop blaming the ruling party for crises within their ranks.
Basiru made the call during a media chat on Wednesday while reacting to allegations that the APC interferes in the affairs of opposition parties.
He dismissed the claims as unfounded, insisting that there was no evidence linking the ruling party to the disputes rocking other political platforms.
According to him, most of the crises in opposition parties stem from internal disagreements and a failure to adhere to laid-down procedures.
He said political parties must be accountable for how they manage their structures rather than attributing their problems to external forces.
Basiru also cautioned against attempts to undermine democratic institutions, particularly the judiciary, in the pursuit of political arguments.
He noted that some parties have disregarded court orders by proceeding with conventions and leadership processes, a development he described as a violation of the law.
The APC scribe maintained that the ruling party operates within the ambit of the law and respects the principles of democracy, stressing that discipline and compliance with legal processes remain essential for the stability of political parties.
