The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party approved the appointment of Nyesom Wike as a minister in the administration of Bola Tinubu.
Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja, Yilwatda said Wike formally sought permission from the PDP before accepting the role as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and that the party’s National Working Committee granted approval.
According to him, Wike’s participation in the APC-led government is therefore not unusual, as it was done with the consent of his party.
Yilwatda also dismissed criticisms surrounding the appointment, noting that previous administrations had appointed individuals from opposition parties into key government positions.
He cited examples including Bala Mohammed, who served as FCT minister under former President Goodluck Jonathan despite belonging to a different political party at the time.
He also referenced Adamu Aliero, who was appointed minister by former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
The APC chairman further questioned why similar appointments in the past did not attract the same level of criticism, insisting that President Tinubu’s decision aligns with established political practices.
He added that attention should not be focused solely on Wike, pointing out that other ministers, including members of different political parties, are also serving in the current administration.
