The Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has dismissed claims by former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, that a coalition-backed candidate could unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.Atiku had, during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, expressed confidence that a united opposition would defeat the incumbent administration, describing the government’s performance as poor, particularly in the area of the economy.He stated that with a coalition candidate, the President would be “dead on arrival,” adding that he was disappointed by the administration’s handling of governance.Reacting in a post on X, Bwala, a former spokesperson to Atiku, rejected the assertion, arguing that the former vice-president lacks the political strength to defeat Tinubu.He noted that Atiku had previously contested against Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election with the backing of several governors and established political structures but still lost.Bwala further contended that the current opposition coalition lacks the necessary grassroots support and political base to pose a serious challenge to the ruling party in the next general election.According to him, the coalition is largely made up of aggrieved political figures without significant electoral influence, adding that the President remains firmly positioned ahead of the 2027 polls.
