A support group of the African Democratic Congress, the Grassroots Mobilisation Network, has alleged that recent remarks by President Bola Tinubu indicate the Presidency’s involvement in the party’s ongoing leadership crisis.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by its Secretary, Idris Bala Musa, the group reacted to comments made by the President during a meeting with coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Tinubu had reportedly claimed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar attempted to “privatise” the ADC but was resisted by party stakeholders. He also urged Nigerians to uphold court orders and respect the rule of law.
Responding, the GMN maintained that the ADC remains a legally constituted political party with a broad national base, insisting that its leadership structure emerged through due process in line with the party’s constitution, the Electoral Act, and relevant guidelines.
The group said it aligned with the President’s call for adherence to the rule of law, adding that its commitment to legality informed its rejection of what it described as manufactured crises and externally sponsored attempts to destabilise the party.
According to the statement, the ADC remains united under its recognised leadership and will not be distracted by what it termed propaganda or interference.
It stressed that democratic governance depends on political plurality and the freedom of party members to make independent choices.
The group also called on the judiciary, civil society organisations, the media, and the international community to closely monitor developments within opposition parties and safeguard democratic principles.
It reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy and pledged to continue mobilising support as part of efforts to present Nigerians with credible political alternatives.
