The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has arrested two candidates and a parent for allegedly falsifying 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results through Artificial Intelligence and other digital tools.
The board made the disclosure on Friday, the same day it released the results of 632,788 candidates who took the examination on Thursday, April 16.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB said the suspects were detained for allegedly altering official result notification messages sent via SMS in an attempt to falsify scores and mislead unsuspecting parents and guardians.
“Currently, two candidates and one parent are in custody for engaging in result falsification using AI and other electronic means,” the statement said.
The examination body described the act as a criminal offence, warning that anyone found involved would face full prosecution under the law.
It also advised candidates to desist from tampering with result messages sent through its official shortcodes, 55019 and 66019, stressing that they remain the only approved channels for UTME result delivery.
JAMB further explained that candidates who sat for the examination on Thursday can check their results by sending UTMERESULT via SMS to either 55019 or 66019 using the phone number used during registration.
It added that printing of official result slips is yet to commence and will be activated at a later date.
The 2026 UTME, which began on April 16, is scheduled to run until April 22 across designated centres nationwide, with results being released in batches as processing continues.
