The Nigerian community in the United Kingdom has been thrown into grief following the sudden death of a Nigerian man, Herbert, who reportedly passed away on the same day his father was buried in Nigeria.
The incident was confirmed by a community leader, Oluomo of Derby, who described the development as deeply saddening and urged support for the bereaved family.
In a statement, he said the deceased died in the UK while funeral rites for his late father were being held in Nigeria.
Herbert, said to be a devoted husband and father of three, reportedly died in his sleep at his residence in Thornaby.
Sources within the community disclosed that he had been under emotional and financial pressure in the aftermath of his father’s death. Although he was unable to travel to Nigeria for the burial, he was said to have contributed financially towards the funeral arrangements.
The situation took a tragic turn when he died on the same day his father was interred.
It was gathered that his children discovered his lifeless body at home in the absence of their mother, further compounding the distress surrounding the incident.
The development has left his wife with the responsibility of caring for their three young children, alongside the burden of arranging his burial and possible repatriation of his remains to Nigeria.
Meanwhile, members of the Nigerian community in the UK have commenced a fundraising drive to support the family.
Calling for assistance, the community leader appealed to Nigerians and well-wishers to offer financial and moral support.
He said contributions, prayers and acts of kindness would go a long way in helping the family cope with the loss.
