A former Governor of Kano State and ex-Minister, Ibrahim Shekarau, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, citing ongoing political realignments.
Shekarau conveyed his decision in a letter dated April 19, 2026, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Giginyu Ward in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, stating that his resignation takes immediate effect.
“Please accept this letter as notice of my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party with effect from today,” he wrote.
The former senator explained that the decision followed extensive consultations with his political associates, adding that plans were underway to move to another political platform.
“This decision follows wide consultations within my political group to continue our political activities in another party,” he stated.
Shekarau also appreciated the support of party leaders at the ward level, praying for continued guidance in their roles.
Copies of the resignation letter were sent to the PDP leadership in Kano State and Nassarawa Local Government Area, formally notifying the party of his exit.
