Yusuf welcomes Shekarau to APC, says party gains strength in Kano

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has welcomed former governor and senator, Ibrahim Shekarau, into the All Progressives Congress, describing his defection as a significant boost to the party’s strength in the state.

The governor’s position was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.

Yusuf said arrangements were underway, in collaboration with the party’s national leadership, to fix a date for the formal reception of the former governor into the APC.

He noted that the party in Kano had continued to attract new members, adding that the latest development further consolidates its position as a dominant political force in the state.

The governor expressed confidence in the party’s preparedness for future elections, stating that unity and strategic alignments remained central to its growing influence.

He also assured party members of the leadership’s commitment to strengthening internal cohesion and expanding its grassroots support base.

Yusuf urged party faithful to remain steadfast and intensify mobilisation efforts ahead of upcoming political contests.

Shekarau had earlier announced his decision to join the APC while addressing supporters at his Mundubawa residence in Kano.

The former governor said the move followed extensive consultations with his political associates and a review of available options.

He cited internal challenges within the Peoples Democratic Party as part of the reasons for his decision, adding that his group resolved to align with the APC moving forward.
