Former Kano State Governor and presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has been conferred with a Human Capital Development Award in the United Kingdom.
The recognition was bestowed by the Nigerian Association Tyne and Wear during its annual ceremony held in Newcastle, North East England, on Saturday. The event drew members of the Nigerian diaspora, alongside community leaders and professionals from across the UK.
The organisers stated that the award was in acknowledgement of Kwankwaso’s impact in education, youth empowerment and institutional growth during his time in public office.
They noted that the former governor is credited with implementing policies that broadened access to education, including the establishment of tertiary institutions and scholarship schemes that have produced numerous PhD holders and thousands of graduates.
Kwankwaso, who was absent at the event, was represented by the Global Coordinator of the Kwankwasiyya Diaspora, Dr Hamisu Muhammad, who received the award on his behalf.
In a message conveyed at the ceremony, the former governor expressed gratitude to the organisers and reiterated his dedication to national development.
“I appreciate this recognition and remain committed to contributing my quota to the progress of Nigeria,” he said.
He stressed the importance of education as a catalyst for sustainable growth, adding that investment in human capital is vital for national advancement.
Muhammad, in his remarks, said his selection to represent Kwankwaso underscored the former governor’s belief in young people.
According to him, the gesture reflects Kwankwaso’s enduring commitment to youth development and confidence in the next generation.
The ceremony also underscored Kwankwaso’s sustained influence in national conversations, particularly in the areas of education, leadership and development.
