A tragic road accident has claimed the life of a roadside hawker in the Okokomaiko area of Lagos State, while another collision in a different part of the city left seven persons injured.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed on Sunday that the fatal incident involved a Lexus Jeep bearing registration number SMK 674 HY.
In a statement issued by the agency’s spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, the victim, described as an adult male hawker, was pronounced dead at the scene.
He explained that traffic officials quickly moved to the location after receiving a distress call, cordoned off the area, and removed the body from the road.
Police officers from the Ketu Division were said to have later taken over the scene and transported the remains to the Badagry Mortuary.
Meanwhile, LASTMA disclosed that seven passengers were rescued with injuries following another crash at the Ogudu inward toll gate.
The accident involved a Mazda commercial bus with registration number MUS 231 YA and a Lexus Jeep marked FKJ 23 HL.
Emergency responders, including officials of the Ogudu Police Division and the Lagos State Ambulance Service, were said to have worked together to evacuate the injured victims to nearby hospitals.
Authorities added that the vehicles involved in both incidents have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
Reacting to the developments, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged drivers to obey traffic laws and avoid excessive speed.
He stressed the importance of careful driving, particularly in conditions where visibility may be poor, reaffirming the agency’s resolve to enhance road safety across the state.
The incidents add to growing concerns over road accidents, coming shortly after a deadly crash in Oyo State that resulted in fatalities and multiple injuries.
