VIDEO: Remain in ADC, resist defection pressure, Gbajabiamila tells lawmaker

Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has advised a member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, to remain in the African Democratic Congress and consolidate his political base rather than defecting.

Gbajabiamila gave the advice at a reception organised to celebrate Abejide’s 20th wedding anniversary and the 50th birthday of his wife.

In a video of the event that has since gone viral, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives described the Kogi lawmaker as a committed and resilient politician who should not abandon a platform he built through personal sacrifice.

He urged Abejide to resist any pressure to defect, particularly to the All Progressives Congress, and instead focus on strengthening his position within the ADC.

According to him, the lawmaker should remain in the party, confront internal opposition and work towards securing re-election on its platform.

Gbajabiamila also encouraged him to expand his political structure by bringing in allies, including Bala Nafiu Gombe, to reinforce his influence.

He maintained that no individual or group should be allowed to take over a political structure built through sustained effort and resources.

The advice comes amid ongoing internal disputes within the ADC, following the reported expulsion of Abejide, Gombe and others by the party’s National Working Committee over alleged anti-party activities.

Gombe is currently challenging issues surrounding the party’s leadership in court.
