Amupitan’s alleged X account: INEC Withholds Identity of Forensic Expert behind Acclaimed Revelations

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has explained why it is withholding the identity of the forensic cybersecurity expert investigating a pro–All Progressives Congress (APC) X account allegedly linked to its chairman, Joash Amupitan.

Speaking on the issue on Channels TV Morning Brief, INEC ICT Director, Lawrence Bayode, said the decision was taken because the case has been transferred to the cybercrime unit of the Nigeria Police Force, which is responsible for investigating and prosecuting such offences.

Bayode noted that once a matter is under police investigation, it becomes necessary to protect the integrity of the process, including the identity of individuals involved in the forensic analysis.

“The matter is now going through the cybercrime centre under the Nigeria police force unit, saddled with the responsibility of prosecuting any cybercrime matters,” Bayode said.”
