The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed a single case of COVID-19 in Cross River State, assuring the public that the situation is under control with no sign of widespread transmission.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Director-General of the agency, Dr Jide Idris, said the infected patient had been isolated and was receiving treatment in line with national guidelines.
He added that the patient was in stable condition and responding positively to care.
The agency noted that the confirmed case remains the only one recorded so far in the state.
According to the NCDC, immediate response measures were activated following the confirmation, in collaboration with the Cross River State Ministry of Health and other partners.
It listed the measures to include contact tracing, intensified surveillance, and strengthened infection prevention and control protocols, adding that all identified contacts were being closely monitored.
The centre stressed that there was currently no evidence of community transmission in the state.
It explained that the detection of the case demonstrated the effectiveness of existing surveillance systems.
The NCDC urged Nigerians to remain calm but vigilant, advising adherence to public health guidelines to prevent further spread of the virus.
It encouraged citizens to maintain proper hand and respiratory hygiene, seek medical attention when necessary, and rely on verified information from authorised health authorities.
The agency also assured that it would continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary, while commending the media and the public for supporting the dissemination of accurate health information.
