An Adamawa State governorship aspirant, Chief Maurice Vunobolki, has defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party, citing alleged lack of internal democracy in the ruling party.
Vunobolki, who had joined the APC in February in pursuit of his governorship ambition, said he resigned from the party barely three weeks after his entry.
Speaking on Thursday, he explained that his decision to quit the APC was guided by personal conviction, noting that the party’s internal processes did not reflect fairness and transparency.
According to him, his brief stay in the APC exposed what he described as limitations in members’ ability to participate freely and compete on equal terms.
He added that following his resignation, he consulted widely with his supporters and political associates, who also expressed dissatisfaction with what he termed a lack of accountability and justice within the party.
Announcing his return to the PDP, Vunobolki described the opposition party as more accommodating and better suited for inclusive political engagement.
He expressed confidence that the PDP provides a platform that aligns with his political ideals and aspirations.
However, his return comes amid challenges within the PDP in the state, following a recent exodus of members linked to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri earlier in the year.
