The Accord has rejected claims by Christopher Imumolen that he is the party’s national chairman, insisting he is no longer a member.
Imumolen, who was the party’s presidential candidate in 2023, had earlier led a protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demanding recognition as chairman and urging the commission to comply with what he described as existing court orders.
However, speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the party’s national chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, dismissed the move as misleading.
Mgbudem said Imumolen and several others were expelled from the party in November 2024 over alleged anti-party activities, adding that the decision was ratified by the party’s national executive committee.
He also refuted Imumolen’s claim of a valid court order backing his leadership, stating that the only order obtained was an ex parte ruling that expired within seven days.
“There is no leadership dispute or faction in Accord, and there is no court order in favour of Imumolen or anybody for INEC to comply with,” Mgbudem said.
The chairman further revealed that a suit filed by Imumolen challenging the party’s leadership was struck out by an FCT high court in July 2025 for lack of jurisdiction, describing the matter as an internal party dispute not suitable for judicial determination.
According to him, the party had also secured court orders directing Imumolen and his associates to vacate its national secretariat after allegedly taking it over unlawfully.
Mgbudem maintained that he remains the legitimate chairman, having emerged from a national convention held in July 2024 and monitored by INEC.
He urged party members and the public to disregard Imumolen’s claims, accusing him of attempting to create a false impression of a crisis within the party.
The party added that it is currently focused on upcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun, as well as preparations for the 2027 general elections.
