Former Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Kayode Oladele, has hailed the All Progressives Congress’ adoption of consensus arrangements, saying it will strengthen internal unity and deepen democratic practice within the party.
Oladele, who represented Ogun State on the commission, said the approach reflects strategic leadership and a deliberate effort to reduce internal conflict ahead of future elections.
He spoke while reviewing the outcome of a recent APC caucus meeting held in Abeokuta.
According to him, democracy is not limited to voting alone, but also includes dialogue, compromise and collective decision-making among stakeholders.
Oladele explained that the consensus model encourages broader consultation and shared ownership of decisions, adding that it helps reduce tension, financial burden and post-primary disputes that often weaken political parties.
He argued that by limiting divisive primaries, the APC is positioning itself as a more united and focused political platform ahead of elections.
The former lawmaker also commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as inclusive leadership that has promoted cohesion within the ruling party.
He said the President’s style of leadership continues to provide direction and stability for party stakeholders.
Oladele further praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for his role in sustaining party unity in Ogun State, as well as former Governor Olusegun Osoba for his longstanding contribution to progressive politics in the state.
He also acknowledged the political contributions of former governors and serving Senator Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun, noting that their participation reflects growing maturity within the state’s political landscape.
The FCC former boss particularly commended the Ogun APC caucus for endorsing Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the party’s consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
He described the decision as strategic and forward-looking, adding that it demonstrates a commitment to inclusiveness and political balance in the state.
Oladele noted that the development also offers Ogun West a renewed opportunity to produce the next governor, describing it as a step towards addressing long-standing regional concerns over political representation.
He expressed optimism that Senator Adeola’s track record in public service and development initiatives would inspire confidence among stakeholders.
Oladele urged other political parties in the country to adopt consensus-building approaches to reduce internal crises and strengthen democratic stability.
He reiterated that President Tinubu remains a unifying figure in Nigeria’s political and governance structure.
