The African Democratic Congress on Saturday accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of plotting to frustrate its planned opposition summit scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The allegation was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement shared via his official X handle.
Abdullahi claimed that the party had uncovered moves aimed at disrupting the summit slated for April 25, warning that such actions would not deter the opposition.
“We have uncovered plans by the ruling APC to disrupt the summit being held by opposition parties in Ibadan,” he said.
He further alleged that similar attempts had been made previously to hinder the party’s activities, including challenges encountered in securing venues for meetings in Abuja.
“After denying us the use of venues in Abuja, they are now attempting to stop us from holding our meeting in Ibadan,” Abdullahi stated.
The ADC spokesman criticised the ruling party’s stance, describing it as contradictory.
“They claim not to be threatened, yet their actions suggest otherwise,” he added.
Despite the alleged pressure, Abdullahi affirmed that the summit would proceed as planned, stressing that the opposition remained committed to its agenda.
“We will not be deterred. We are acting in the interest of Nigerians,” he said.
The party had earlier raised similar concerns during a previous convention in Abuja, where it alleged last-minute efforts to disrupt its gathering.
