David Mark, National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government of undermining democratic institutions and weakening opposition parties in Nigeria.
Speaking on Saturday at the National Opposition Summit in Ibadan, Oyo State, the former Senate President alleged that the ruling party was attempting to impose a one-party state by suppressing opposition voices and limiting Nigerians’ right to freely choose their leaders.
Mark said institutions meant to protect democracy were gradually losing their independence, adding that the country’s democratic system was under serious threat.
According to him, no single opposition party can challenge what he described as an entrenched political structure determined to retain power at all costs

He therefore urged opposition leaders to put aside personal ambition and embrace unity, sacrifice, and coalition-building in order to defend democracy and offer Nigerians a better alternative.
Mark also raised concerns about the credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), claiming that many Nigerians had lost confidence in the electoral body due to perceived bias.
He warned that unless urgent reforms are made, the next general election could become one of the most distrusted in the nation’s history.
The ADC chairman stressed that current political developments would determine whether Nigeria remains a true democracy or slides into one-party dominance
