The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed to former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to join its platform ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a post shared on X on Sunday, the party urged both politicians to align with the NDC within two weeks to secure its presidential ticket before the deadline for party primaries.
The message, which featured a photo of Obi shaking hands with Kwankwaso, carried the caption, “Nigeria will be OK,” signaling support for a possible joint ticket.
The development comes days after supporters of the two politicians launched the “OK Movement,” a political campaign group aimed at mobilising nationwide backing for an Obi-Kwankwaso alliance in 2027.
The movement has since announced appointments into its national executive council, zonal structures, and state chapters.
Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where both men are influential figures, is currently facing an internal leadership crisis that could affect its readiness for the next general election.
The Supreme Court recently reserved judgment in the leadership dispute involving former Senate President David Mark’s faction and another group led by Nafiu Bala.
Also, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed May 30, 2026, as the deadline for political parties to submit membership registers and nominate candidates for the 2027 elections.
Several opposition parties, including the ADC, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), have asked INEC to extend the deadline to the end of July, arguing that the current timetable places them at a disadvantage.
