Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has denounced the conduct of some youths who allegedly displayed indecent behaviour during the recent visit of the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, describing the act as shameful and unacceptable.
The governor also dissociated his administration and the people of the state from the incident, insisting it does not reflect Kano’s cultural values and moral standards.
His position was conveyed in a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.
Yusuf spoke at the Third Special Prayer for Lasting Peace held at the Government House, where thousands of Qur’anic reciters gathered to offer prayers for peace, unity and development in the state and the country.
He described the action of the youths—who were seen celebrating on the streets while displaying their underwear—as a deviation from the principles of his administration’s “Kano First” agenda and contrary to Islamic teachings on modesty and discipline.
“Our youths should represent hope and progress, not instruments of ridicule or moral decline,” the governor said.
He further cautioned political actors against instigating young people for personal or partisan interests, warning that such actions could have far-reaching consequences for society.
Yusuf urged those involved in the incident to seek forgiveness and tender apologies to the people of Kano for the embarrassment caused.
He also reiterated the need to protect young people from exploitation in political activities, noting that such practices undermine societal values and long-term development.
