Fresh reports indicate that Lagos State may be heading for a major political shake-up, as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has allegedly been asked to resign on health grounds, with Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat being positioned to take over the administration.
Sources close to the Presidency claim that President Bola Tinubu and influential figures within his political camp are dissatisfied with the current leadership in Lagos and have begun discussions on a transition plan.
If implemented, the arrangement would allow Hamzat to complete the current tenure and place him in a strong position to contest for a full four-year term in the 2027 governorship election.
The reported move comes amid rising tensions between Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu over allegations of political disloyalty, internal APC power struggles, control of strategic land assets, and controversies surrounding the Lagos State House of Assembly leadership crisis.
Sanwo-Olu has also reportedly come under scrutiny following the EFCC investigation involving businesswoman Aisha Achimugu, who was accused of money laundering and alleged political funding links.
Political observers say any attempt to remove Sanwo-Olu before the end of his tenure would mark one of the most dramatic leadership changes in Lagos politics in recent years, with serious implications for governance and the 2027 elections.
