Police Officer Arrested, Moved to Force Headquarters Over Killing of Restrained Suspect in Delta

A Delta State police officer, ASP Usman Nuhu, has been arrested and transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja after allegedly shooting dead a 28-year-old suspect, Mene Ogidi, in Effurun.

The incident went viral after a video showed the suspect sitting on the ground with his hands tied behind his back before being shot. Police said the suspect had been apprehended while trying to waybill a parcel allegedly containing a Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition.

The Nigeria Police Force described the shooting as a violation of regulations and said the officer and his team will face disciplinary action and possible prosecution. The Inspector-General of Police also extended condolences to the victim’s family and promised justice.
