President Bola Tinubu has said worsening insecurity in parts of the country will not compel him to abandon office, declaring his intention to seek re-election.
Tinubu made the remarks while receiving Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, alongside other stakeholders from the state.
The President faulted attempts to link the nation’s security challenges to his administration’s survival, alleging that such narratives play into the hands of political adversaries.
According to him, critics highlighting insecurity as a basis to push him out of office are advancing the agenda of his opponents.
“You are playing into the hands of those who want to use insecurity to remove me,” Tinubu said.
He maintained that he remains undeterred by criticisms trailing the security situation, describing himself as resolute.
“I will not be forced out. I will also contest for a second term,” the President added.
His comments come amid growing concerns over attacks, kidnappings and killings in different parts of the country, with opposition figures and civil society groups urging the Federal Government to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity.
Tinubu, however, has consistently defended his administration’s response, noting that security agencies are receiving the necessary support to address threats and restore stability.
The President, who assumed office in May 2023, is expected to complete his first term in 2027, when Nigerians will head to the polls for another presidential election.
