The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, on Wednesday said aspirants are freely purchasing expression of interest and nomination forms to contest elective positions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Yilwatda stated that the ongoing exercise reflects the party’s commitment to internal democracy, noting that individuals are showing interest in contesting offices currently occupied by serving governors, lawmakers and even the President, Bola Tinubu.
Speaking after inspecting the process at the Abuja Continental Hotel, he said the level of participation underscores the party’s acceptance across the country.
“Aspirants are obtaining forms to contest at all levels, including the presidency. This demonstrates the openness of our system and the strength of our internal democracy,” he said.
The APC chairman added that the exercise has progressed without hitches, with no complaints recorded from participants.
According to him, financial institutions, party officials and administrative units involved in the process have carried out their responsibilities effectively.
“Payments are being processed seamlessly, documentation is ongoing, and feedback from participants has been positive. We have not received any complaints,” he said.
Yilwatda described the development as a reflection of the party’s organisational strength, expressing optimism that subsequent stages of the process would also run smoothly.
He stressed that the level of participation aligns with the APC’s principle of inclusiveness.
“Inclusion remains a core value of our party, and what we are witnessing is a clear demonstration of that,” he added.
On the possibility of extending the deadline for the sale of forms, the APC chairman said no such decision had been taken.
He noted that any extension would require approval from the party’s National Working Committee.
“As it stands, there is no extension. Any decision in that regard will follow due process,” he said.
